Our story
noun — the dining table; the spread laid out for guests
In Arabic, a sofra is more than a table. It is the moment everything is set out and everyone is called to sit — the place where conversations begin, plates are passed hand to hand, and nobody eats alone.
We chose the name because that is what we wanted to build: not a restaurant, not an event, but a table people return to. A place for community, for real connection, and for the kind of coziness that makes an evening run long.
Sofra Society began as a handful of dinners for friends and friends of friends. It has grown into a circle of guests, hosts and partners who believe the best way to meet someone is across a shared meal.
Arrive a stranger.
Leave full, and among friends.

The supper
Our menus begin in the Egyptian kitchen and travel freely across the Levant and the Mediterranean — slow-cooked stews, warm bread, mezze, herbs, citrus and spice.
Each evening is a seasonal, multi-course menu served family-style at a single table, with the generous hospitality we grew up with: there is always more food than you expect, and always room for one more guest.

Where we gather
We gather in different neighbourhoods around Toronto, so wherever you live, a Sofra table is never too far away.
Some evenings take place in the home of a Sofra member who opens their door for the night. We take care of everything — the menu, the cooking and the table setting — so it feels like dinner at a friend's place.
Other evenings are held with our venue partners — independent studios, cafés and creative spaces across Toronto that open their doors to the Sofra table for the night.

EnquireGood to know
Absolutely. Most guests arrive alone or with one friend. We seat everyone so conversation flows from the first course.
Each evening is held in a member's home or at a partner venue in Toronto. For everyone's privacy and safety, the exact address is emailed only to confirmed guests 24–48 hours before the evening.
Tell us about any dietary needs or allergies when you book and we'll do our best to accommodate them. Please note that our kitchens are not allergen-free and dishes may contain or come into contact with nuts, sesame, dairy, gluten and other common allergens. If you have a severe allergy, please contact us before booking.
Plans change, so here is how it works:
• Seats are non-refundable once booked.
• If you can't make it, let us know before the evening and we'll move your seat to another supper.
• No-shows can't be moved, as food is bought and prepared for every seat.
• If we ever need to cancel or reschedule, you'll receive a full refund or the option to move to the new date.
To move your seat, email sofrasociety@gmail.com.
We sometimes take photos and short videos during the evening to share on our Instagram and website. If you'd rather not appear, just tell us on arrival or by email and we'll make sure you're not featured. We never post close-ups of guests without asking first.
We use your details only to plan our evenings and keep you updated, and we never sell them. Read our privacy policy for the full details.
